1992 Suzuki Swift Sedan L from North America - Comments

"The perfect poverty rocket"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Previously owned by my mother.

Resonator went about 150,000km, replaced with a straight pipe

Transmission has grown notchy since about 125,000km. Guessing the synchros are out of alignment. Has completely locked up once. Shifter would not move period, clutch in or out... got it unstuck and it hasn't given me any trouble since (knock on wood).

Clutch has become somewhat mushy, started about 135,000km, due to my driving at the time.

New clutch & transmission rebuild are on the way as soon as I can pay for it all.

General comments?

Tires are a pain to find... It runs 165/65R13's (Bridgestone is the only company I know of that makes All Season tires in that size, mega $$$), as opposed to the hatch's 155/70's (which are a dime a dozen). Looking to go to 14" rims, but I don't know what sizes will fit...

1.3L SOHC is pretty punchy, noted better throttle response & acceleration when the resonator was replaced with a straight pipe. It'll still chirp the tires going into second, even with the mushy clutch/notchy transmission.

Can't find any HP, Torque, or Redline specs for the engine, or gear ratios for the transmission. Can't find a Hayne's Manual for it. I can't find ANYONE who deals with aftermarket/OEM body kits/aero parts for it either.

If anyone can help me find Aero Parts, Tires, or Specs, please email me at crash1701@hotmail.com

Sharp looking, if somewhat subdued. Fair handling, good punch for its size, and 40+ MPG to boot... DOOD!

I read in a car magazine that (if memory serves me correctly) it has somewhere around 50HP. The car is light enough to make it seem like more.

The 1.0 Liter in the geo metro had around 50 hp. The 1.3L is around 80 I think. Then there's the 1.3L DOHC which is rated at 100 hp. You should be able to find 14" wheels from a Swift GTi. Finding tires for those isn't much easier.

Good Luck,

Adam.

Well you know what? I seem to have the same problem as well upon finding any specs about the swift. I bought my car without a head. Now I have replaced the thing and now she is sluggish and missing. Cannot get the right timing for her even replaced cam gear an well as crank gear. I do know that my Suzuki is around 65 hp. if you find any specs at all please e-mail me at dblj187@hotmail.com thanks and good luck.

I owned a 92 bought second owner. 1.3 4 cylinder 4 door. Tranny went after 3 weeks, dealer had to pay to rebuild it. Consumer laws in B.C. Canada.

Besides that only water pump, brakes, tires, timing belt, routine maintenance and new clutch, and I was up to 200 000 km.

I was using it for 2 years delivering the National Post newspaper in ten mile point area of Victoria BC Canada. Lots of abuse in this area. I was handed down a Plymouth Acclaim so I was guilted to hand the Swift down to my brother inlaw which my sister inlaw divorced a year later.

The Acclaim was a piece of scrap. I at least received some money in trade towards a 2002 Hyundai, and this car is another good one. Hyundai Elantra. The Swift though cheap made me money and saved lots of money.
