I have had the transmission rebuilt twice.
Second gear syncro takes punisment but doesn't stand up well to it. This could have also been down to the poor service I got from the dealership. They had no mechanics trained on this little car and because it was under warranty I was required to take it back to them. They are no longer a Suzuki dealer.
This is a fantastic little pocket rocket. With a few minor modifications the 1.3 engine is putting out over 110 hp with 0-60 times way under 9 seconds.
Better tires and stiffer suspension has given it the ability to run circles around so called sports cars yet it does this while only taking tiny sips of fuel. The few people that know what the car is smile when they see it and the many people that think it just another econo sedan frown as they see it's tail lights leaving them behind.
It is a long way from being the fastest production car on the road, but it is right up there on top when it comes to being fun to drive.
Could you tell me please the 0-60mph for the normal Suzuki Swift GTi? Your GTi has under 9 seconds which is fantastic.
Standard 0-60: 9.1/sec.
I own one of these baby beasts, they are truly great, mine is in metallic black paint and does come up real good after a polish which tends to turn heads. Another thing is the girls love them as the Recaro style seats are quite comfy giving sporty feel.
It is fast, cheap and reliable. Suzuki dealers have done more harm than good to mine & also I don't think they bother changing the gearbox oil at services, probably because it is difficult to do and so the sweet gearbox can go from smooth to rough from 2nd to third gear if the gearbox is neglected.
I would say - great car to drive. And very reliable.
I think you will find the correct time for a MK2-MK3 Swift GTI is 8.6 seconds.
The MK1 (boxy old thing) did it in 9.1.
It's actually 8.3 seconds standard.
With a k&n filter 8 seconds flat.
I did mine in 8.3sec stock standard so it can be done with the right timing.
Your all wrong it's 8.1 seconds 0-60 standard and the mark 1 "the old boxy thing" is actually quicker than the mark 2.
True, the old boxy one is lighter, but damn it's an ugly car.
My dad has driven 3 Suzukis Swifts as simple second cars, and they're a great little runner.
He doesn't have the GTi, but a 2001 DOHC 1.3.
It's a real featherweight, so still quick for the little engine.
I'm gonna buy a GTi soon. My dad is going for the new 2009 Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6.
His first Swift had bad 1e and 2e gear, but that's a real Swift bug.. no problems with the last 2.
Overall a great little car. Plenty of performance parts too if you know where to look.
8/10 because of gear bugs and massive understeer when wet (light).
