2004 Suzuki Verona GLX review from North America
"Looks good, well built, works well, I am very happy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Plastic clip that holds floor mats in place on drivers side snapped. Replacement part $2.00. Seized control arm bushing in passenger rear wheel assembly caused rattling noise at about $17,000 KM. Aprox $120.00 to fix.
General comments?
When I found this car in a lot in Nov 2005 it was a really good price, $18,500 for the GLX. I did some research and the Verona's had been branded a lemon. Armed with that information, I decided to take a chance. Purchase price was $16,500 after explaining to the salesman that it was almost 2 years old, and even if it was new, it had a lemon reputation. It was even more amusing finding out this information as when I looked at the car the first time the salesman had a copy of Consumer's report from when the car first came out that listed it as a best buy.
I have had little to no problems with this car. It was well equipped, the build quality is excellent. Acceleration and cornering are on par if not a bit better then a Camry. The controls are very well laid out and the car is quite comfortable even on long trips.
The only complaint I have with this car is the fuel consumption. My car has 20,000 Km on it. Most the driving is short city driving and it gets 13.8 L/100km (18.08 miles/g) and the few trips it has been on the highway it was 9.9L/100Km (25 miles/g)
If Suzuki still built this car I would recommend it. At the time I was also considering the Hyundai Sonata. I am happy with my choice.
