1996 Suzuki X-90 4WD 2 Seat review from North America
"Can't wait to have a real car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Had to replace the 4 brakes at 140 000km, which it pretty desent, but most note that previous owner was my grandmother and that she wasn't driving it like me.
The spoiler got riped out when one of my friends borrowed it. It's not solidly put in place, but I guess it wasn't ingeniered to resist to a drunk idiot weighting 350 pounds that wanted a 100 yard lift hangning on the bumper with his knees and grabing the spoiler... (Never give your car to your dad's friend on the first day of the construction vacancies, even if you get in return his F-150...)
Oh and the passenger'S electric window needs help to get all up because she jams half way and 3/4 way trough.
Oil change every 5 000 km. Engine is like new.
I'll have to change this week my differencial's oil because I'm starting to ear weird sounds when I turn right and press on gaz, like metal cracking. But my mechanic told me wasn't anything special, just needed that maintenance.
General comments?
My grandma had it for 10 years and passed it on to me. 2years now since I have it. The aimed public was youths like me, but let me tell you I never get good comments about it from people bellow 50+ years old.
The car on the road is awfull, the suspension is really not confortable, civic's who's droped them by cutting the koil spring react better on bumpy roads, it's almost like having no suspension at all.
The enging is noisy. Crosswinds on the highway make the window side open. If I make 350km/220miles with a full tank, it's pretty good. Tank is 35Lilters which gives 10L /100km, which is the equavalent of normal size V6 SUVs. 145 km/h TOP SPEED wind in your back, though on accelaration I can get equal with some civics even if I'm on automatic transmission.
I don't know why, most of the reviews I read say it's not good in OFF-Road conditions, but I guess they just don't know how to drive. This car is weightless and is 4WD, it's the perfect combination to go cross small rivers, I've had water all up to the door handles and still I would go trough that no problem. Muddy terrain? No problem, just don't do too much on original tires, that's all, because even if it's better than most SUVs in mud, it's on small tires, so there's a limit. But put some desent tires there and Hummer's have to watch out, this ain't a joke.
In winter, that's where you want to drive this car! Sure the windows always get foggy, but this car is a miniature SUBARU IMPREZA, when you go slow and want to drift around a car, put this 2WD and do a ''Fast n Furious'' trick like cake. When night's there and you go to you're local race track, AkA the Wal-Mart parking lot, put this little thing 4WD and race around with Imprezas!
In the end, it's a pretty desent car if you're low on cash, it is made solid, never had to put unusuall maintenance or fix on it and it's the bellow 5000$ car for the winter. But if you have money, don't go for this.
