1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5 review from North America
"This is a highly reliable vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This vehicle is a dream to own in terms of maintenance and reliability. With regular oil changes (every 7500 miles per manufacturer's guidance) and service checks, I have had to make only one repair. That was to replace a tie-rod end at about 190,000 miles.
Biggest complaint: the in-dash clock shorted out a few years ago.
Interior is in great condition; seat upholstry looks good, dashboard still shines, carpet is not worn, power locks and windows work perfectly, etc.
Did I mention that this vehichle has 218,000 miles?
General comments?
Never have I been left stranded - this vehicle takes me and my 2 small children anywhere we need to go. I don't go off-road much anymore, but I've never been stuck in the mud or snow, nor has the vehicle ever "broken down" and left us stranded.
Not the fastest car on the road, but definately the most reliable.
If you're thinking about buying a used 4Runner, go for it. Great vehicle even with high miles.
