1987 Toyota 4Runner SR5 review from Australia and New Zealand

"Unbeatable, reliable, loved by all"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

NOTHING!

NO REBUILDS. NO MAJOR WORK ANYWHERE; just regular servicing and greasing of the old style ball joints.

Oh, but the rear window does stuff up every now and then, and it seems to know the best time to stuff up; when it's raining (for example).

General comments?

This little old truck is indestructible!

I have taken this thing through hell and back, and this baby will go where no other JACKED UP Jeep Cherokee or worthless car has gone before.

This is a true bush basher, and it will get you home if you take care of it.

When I take this duning in Yanchep, I rarely have it engaged into 4x4. With a good set of modest fats, you're practically set. It will scale any dune and get you over the other side with its decent clearance and mid sized wheel base.

It's only a small 4cyl petrol engine, but it works hard. I have towed boats, caravans, trailers and other wannabe 4x4's out of the muck with relative ease.

The truck is raised 2" all round, and has 265 A/T's to get me around. It's not an overboard wannabe with 600 spotlights and snatchstraps wrapped around my bullbar in case I get bogged in the car park at Coles.

Come summer time, you remove your roof and take it to the beach; it's a real people car and is loved by all. It's not fast, it's not particularly good looking, but everyone just seems to have a certain level of respect for it.

Plus, did I mention the rear seats fold dead flat to allow for a double bed? Enough said.
