1996 Toyota 4Runner GS review from UK and Ireland

Factory fitted (well known name vehicle security) alarm/imm.immobilised the vehicle after disconecting twin batteries to weld on tow bar. vehicle immobilised until alarm engineer bypassed system. this type of system was also fitted by other manufactures at factory (so I was told by alarm engineer) and also suffer from same problem which occurs when a disturbance to voltage supply happens when disconecting vehicle battery. Sent alarm unit back to manu. for reprogamming, however it happened again (leaving vehicle operational this time) so sent unit back for reprogramming again (alarm engineer said he had never had to send a unit back again after reprogramming) However still working, although will replace with a new system A.s.a.p.- (expecting it to immobilise vehicle when very incovenient!) You choose Toyota for the ultimate in reliability, but can find it compromised by a tempremental alarm from another manufacturer!

Other than that, as I expected-no problems.

Car handles very well on road and has plenty of power, I have only taken it off road a few times and it has more ability than I have experience to push it to. Having heard scary stories of 2.4 td's cracking heads through overheating (not such a problem on 3.0's apparently) I fitted twin 11" fan set up in front of the radiator (from pug 205 gti) connected to a thermostat from Kenlowe + man. overide switch. I have towed fully laden + caravan through dorset's most challenging hills in august and the beast's running cool.
