1992 Toyota 4Runner SR5 review from North America
"Wish I had never bought this vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission out at 125,000 big hassle replacing.
Head gasket recall - had to have fixed.
Engine out at 139,000 - expensive and hassle.
Constant brake problems (mostly front end)
Rear window motor went out at 130,000.
Recent front end recall is something I have been noticing was a problem for years toyota had said it wasn't - till now.
General comments?
Interior is well suited for a short person - taller than 5'7 it's a head banger.
Handles well with the exception of the recent recall problem.
Engine not strong enough for it's size - it's a dog.
Head gasket recall fixed eventually caused demise of engine and replacing it was very difficult since one can't simply purchase an engine from Toyota.
Have a service memo that proves toyota was aware
of the problem which caused tranny to go out - and the memo is dated months BEFORE the vehicle
was built by Toyota.
I believe Toyota was also aware of several
mechanical defects and still built the vehicles
and sold them as if there wasn't any problems.
