1989 Toyota 4x4 review from North America
"A tough off road truck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Two small rust spots on box.
The drivers side of the bench seat has started to tear a little.
I've replaced the front brake pads twice, and rear shoes once which is pretty good considering during the summer it's on logging roads almost every weekend and during the fall loaded and pulling a 13' boler for hunting season.
The engine is a 22re 4cyl and was rebuilt at 297000km with a performance cam for better pulling and mileage.
At the time of rebuild we replaced the stock exhaust with a new hi-flow header and 2 1/2" pipe, hi-flow cat.,and flow-master muffler, what a difference!
The gears have also been changed to 5:29 front and rear.
The clutch has been changed twice.
General comments?
I will drive this truck until it rusts to pieces.
I have only been stuck once, but have winched out plenty of stranded fords and chevys.
In my opinion the Toyota is the best truck for the west coast and the rockies, they take a beating and look for more.
