I bought mu altis 1.8 in May 1995,overall the car is good lar, power, handling, safety and etc. But you have to be careful when taking sweeping corner at high speed, remember this is not a sport saloon. There is a few parts in my altis that need to be changed due to manufacture defect i. e the disk brake have to be change due to vibration during braking, change of tensioner, this is the main belt that control all other belt, it will make very loud loose belt sound during acceleration. The other thing is power window on the passenger side, just after few month after I bought the car, there is no respond, sent back to service centre for 3 times and finally the power window motor need to be replace. There is also squeaky sound on the armrest of all the door. According to toyota service centre, all Altis is like that.TRUE??.

Last of all,I would like to highlight is that most of the service centre is very comfortable now,But I find it very difficult to do warranty claim and have waits for months for the spare part IF thew would replace for u. I will always have see the manager of the service and make complain before the would verify the warranty claim. So folk next time you want to do a warranty claim, go straight to the manager otherwise you will hear thousand of excuses from the supervisor.

Do we have Altis in 1995? Is that the same model that we are seeing on the road today in Malaysia?

I just bought a 2006 altis and the car's acceleration is quite superb compared to my previous car. I also agree that when it comes to style and comfort/features the car has an edge against its competitors. One minor thing I noticed is a stench coming from the air con duct (after an 8-10 hour parking) considering that the vehicle is relatively new. I also agree with the noise generated by the tires even in the most paved/smooth roads likewise hearing annoying sounds created by motorcycles/trucks during traffic is noticeable. Maybe Toyota should improve the car's sound proofing. As for the concern on the armrest, I also notice that hollow cranking sound. Anyway, all of those things are just minor and when it comes to performance, safety and other features I'm quite satisfied. Though it may not be comparable to BMW, MB or an AUDI one owner may get value for money.

I bought my Altis 1.8 (A) March 2006 in JB. Yesterday when I browse the toyota.com.my, I noticed that the new model altis 1.8 comes with audio control attached with the steering... this is one thing that I long to have it. I checked with the toyota salesman, he told me no way to 'upgrade it'...anyone know about it?

I agree with the comment on the smell that came out from the air-coned, do you think it can be improve? Another thing that I have experience is that when you drive on highway during strong wind the car will be not stable compare to Wira. But overall the car is value for money.

I ever drove at 170km/hr overtaking a lorry. The car never shake at all. My top speed at 200km/hr, never have stability problem. What do you mean by "not stable"?

You should go for 1.8L instead of 1.6. In fact, 1.6 is under power based on the kerb weight of this car.

Really? my main concern was actually gas consumption. I was actually choosing between the new civic and the altis. since altis had the 1.6L, I decided to get that. oh man... by the way, my altis hasn't arrived yet and the agent keeps on promising that it will arrive "today or tomorrow" I'm getting impatient already..haha!

Actually your assumption may not correct. Someone told me, 1.8L version has better petrol consumption than 1.6L. However, I am not sure, my Altis 1.8L runs at 11km/L on city ride, and 14km/L on highway. There are many influence factors on petrol consumption, however, I believe it will not be much difference.

1.8L has better overtaking performance in highway, I am truly enjoying the ride! However, 1.6L has better resale value than 1.8L. The fact is, this car is designed for 1.8L based on the kerb weight.

I got my altis last may31..and I think you are correct cause I just measured the fuel consumption. it ran 9.7km/liter.. way way under my expectations.= (I do hope though it's because it's still breaking in that's why it's that low. plus of course all the traffic I encountered..hehe!

Actually, many people thought that higher capacity car consume more fuel. It was also in my thought too until I met up with someone who drives the Camry at 2.2L, the fuel consumption is much better than my Wira 1.5L.

However, many factors that influence the gas consumption. If you step on the fuel harder for better pickup during gear shift from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd gear, it will consume more petrol. If you paddle it gently and let the car shift gear naturally, it will give a much better fuel consumption. Also, periodically maintain your car to ensure it reaches its optimize performance. Also, if you are on the highway, keep your driving speed at around 100km/Hour, it will give a much better fuel consumption.

Well, if you can afford to drive an Altis, you won't mind to enjoying the thrill by paying a little more, right?

I am an Altis owner, I really feel proud to have that car. Even though it was expensive at its class. But it really worth at that price plus its brand and quality.

Performance-The VVti performance really surprise me, a good pick up and powerful engine. I wonder it will be even more powerful if toyota install a dual VVTI engine in the future.

Quality- Toyota is well known for its quality, it has luxury feel, comfort (particularly for Asian),sound proofing was excellent, and it was so stable on the road.

Security-Advance security feature (not only basic security feature like air bag and ABS, but a lot more advance than that).

However, I still have some suggestion for altis, I think it should have 2.0 cc with dual vvti engine. Can't imagine how powerful the car is.

I owned an Altis 1.8L for nearly 1.5 years. I am truly enjoying the thrill driving this car especially on the highway. The overtaking is superb when you change gears to accelerate. Many of us did not realized that this car has an additional safety feature - ramp down the hill. The car will automatically switch to lower gear in order to slow down the car. Well, this is what you paid for.
