The CD changer died.
Valve covers leaked oil.
I pretty well love the car. It has been extremely reliable for me and my family, there is plenty of seating room as well as cargo room in the trunk and it rides beautifully.
I plan to either purchase another Avalon in a few years or move up to a Lexus ES300 - which is basically a fancy Avalon.
In reference to the CD disc changer. I find that most CD changers and/or CD players go out within some 8 year span. Problem being that the CD player in the Avalon and any other vehicle is just like the CD drive on your computer. A few brand name CD drives last longer, and cost you more money. To give you an example, I've owned a 98 Sienna for 8 yrs now. The Cd player (comes in 2 decks,, one CD player, the other AM/FM/cassette radio) went out. Toyota advised me about replacing the entire radio, including the non-defective radio. Instead of replacing it for $400 (labor extra), I purchased an after-market CD/tape/radio unit for $240 from cartoys. Saved me money. This analogy is exactly the same with your computer CD/DVD drive, old one goes out, buy a new one.
