1997 Toyota Avalon XL review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Strut mount noise.
General comments?
When I purchased my 1997 Avalon I noticed a clunking noise in the struts.
When I asked my friend about the noise,
(who is a Toyota mechanic) he said that it was a design flaw. He also advised me that replacing the struts would not fix the problem. He then told me how to fix the problem by loosening the three
bolts that retain the strut located under the hood. Jack the car up on the related side and push a piece of rubber between the top of the strut and the shock tower. Unbelievably, I haven't had the problem since then. Hope I've helped all Avalon owners.
