"Cracking 'Runaround' or second car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing at all as of yet...

General comments?

The car, albeit very basic, is not bad for in town use. Has fantastic economy, cheap road tax and is nice and simple to drive and control.

Motorways, although possible, are not the best places for these little beasts. They suffer badly from wind turbulence at speed and cross winds can be slightly frightening.

Around town, it's nippy, slighly noisy, but generally comfortable. There is enough space to fit 4 adults in for short trips, but long distance would be a bit cramped I'd imagine.

The boot is very small, but again, for every day use it's not too bad and there is always the rear seats to put shopping on if the boot is slightly too small.

The Aygo + has an uprated audio system with 6 speakers and a CD player with MP3 capability, you can connect an Ipod to it as well so it's pretty good on that side.

Safety wise they all come with ABS and Brake Assist as standard and a couple of air bags (4 in total) to keep it all safe. Remote central locking comes on Aygo + and Sport models.

The car is not slow, it does move quite well, but struggles about 65mph, but once wound up it will sit on 80-85mph all day if needed to.

Generally, for the money it's not too bad, there's not many brand new cars you can buy for the price and get some of the equiptment you get on this so what it may lack in ride quality it makes up for in safety and convienience.

Definatly a good choice for the person who only makes short trips to the shops or takes the kids to school. An excellent second car.

Well written article, not much more I can add to it apart from the wind turbulence and the scary moments with the side winds hitting the car, I would not recommend car to a new driver or for use as a driving school car.

I don't know if different examples of these cars differ widely from each other, but my experience of the Aygo was a pleasure that I hadn't expected! I accepted a two day test drive offer on the Sport model from Toyota at the London Motor Show, to coincide with a couple of days off work, and drove it for about 360 miles with no problems.

The first day I drove across London and back, and found the suspension amazingly hard, with every ripple in the road being felt as my teeth were rattled in my head. But it felt road-sure, with virtually no body roll, good city-speed acceleration and satisfying nippy-ness in heavy traffic. Nice engine growl when pulling hard, my son thought!

The second day, I drove along the M4 to the Cotswolds, and then back to London along the smaller, twisting and hilly roads. Motorway at 85 in 5th (sorry, officer, I must have mistyped the speed there...), and the cabin noise easily allows normal conversation, with engine rpm just below 3500. Off motorway, it chewed up the Cotswold hills easily, still accelerating whenever I wanted. Overtaking caravans on narrow roads from 20 mph or from 40 mph was easy and unworrying. Who actually needs rapid acceleration from 0-60? 0-20 mph, 20-40 mph or 40-60 mph are far more useful in general driving in my view, and this car delivered on my needs. Although the gear shift was a bit like feeling for coins in a bowl of porridge with a wooden spoon, the gear ratios and happy-revvy engine combination allowed wide speed ranges and good response. Just don't stay in 5th if you've got limited time to overtake and get back on your own side of the road!

We can get to used to anything, I suppose, and early in my second day of driving the hardness of the ride had mysteriously morphed into the tyres telling me about the state of their intimate relationships with their own bits of road.

All in all (and I know I drive a bit of a barge at the moment), I had more fun driving the Aygo than I've had for a long time - the far-off years when I had an original Lotus Elan SE. And, get this: despite frankly thrashing it for two days, it still returned somewhere between 51 and 55 miles to the gallon. I think I want one.

Took one out for a test drive twice -first time, very unimpressed-second, liked it a lot more... only concern the tyres screeched like banshees taking roundabouts 'enthusiastically'.They are only 155s which is tiny for a 2006 car, but yet it felt composed,in the dry-wondering would it slide so progressively in the rain...Anyone? (Currently driving a Cinquecento Sporting)
