Buick should, and hopefully never will, make a car like the Camry. Buick makes traditional AMERICAN cars for people that are proud of being Americans, not bland tasteless cars like the Camry or any other Toyota for that matter. It's sad Buick has lost another customer to the Japanese. I personally own a Park Avenue myself and would not dream of replacing it with anything in the Toyota line-up, I am personally shocked that so many seem to be.
Oh gee, you only had to replace the transmission so far, that seems minor!! Are you kidding, why do people swear by these cars, they really are inferior too many domestic products these days. Buick is rated higher by J.D. Power & Associates than Toyota or Honda (and has been for years) in initial quality. But because they are a GM product and viewed as "old folks" cars they are overlooked. Frankly I would really rather have a Buick any day!
GM also makes many other vehicles that I would take any day over a Toyota. SUV's, Silverados, Corvette!! for openers. I have had better follow up on my new domestics than my last imports. The 100,000 mile warranty on the latest vehicles and higher quality convinced me to lose the import hype that I use to possess as well. It stopped working its former magic rather quickly as a result of lanquishing in the dealer service shop.
Nope, the new JD power associates list is out Buick is no longer on top. It goes as follows pals, 1. Lexus, 2. Lincoln 3. Honda. No buick up there kidos. and as for the man who likes the silverado and corvette over a Camry...sad...considereing you coulnt even name an actual car that GM built that was better than a Camry and that is because there is none.
20:04 What are you talking about? You're confusing me with someone else. My Toyota's never have broken. And everyone I know that owns one never has any trouble either. I think that the only real defects Toyota might have are in the imaginations of Chevy and Ford owners that comment here. Any machine will eventually break, Toyota's just break far less than anything else, and it takes a hell of a lot more miles to finally break than any so called 'domestic'.
Camry Ha! God they are ugly. Why is it that Japanese manufacturers are unable to design good looking vehicles? The front grille on the newest generation is just so gross. What were they thinking? You want to see a classy car? Look at the new Mercury Milan. Just another boring family sedan like all the others out there, but atleast this one exudes a little bit of class. If your going to drive a dishwasher, why not have something with a little bit of style?
Hello to most of you misguided Toyota owners. Toyota's have come a long way since the days of flapping rusted fenders and holes in the floorboards so you can drag your feet to stop the cars when the brakes gave out. Being a Master Certified Mechanic with L1 certification and Emissions certified (30 years experience, independent repair shop, servicing all makes/models), I have a lot of Toyota vehicles come in for unusual repairs that do require costly Toyota only parts. A quick check of a 2007 Camry, it has 2 major recalls for the Air Bag system that does not deploy as it should in an accident (gives me a secure feeling when I have to drive a customers car for a road test. Oh what a feeling!!!) Also to this date just on the 2007 Camry model v6, there is already 91 Technical Service Bulletins listed for known mechanical problems. That is not a service free vehicle. I also just heard that the quality rating on Toyota went down to I believe 4th.
To the mechanic who commented above. Thanks for stating factually what many of us already already know. I get so tired of people who got burned by GM or Ford 20 years ago, and swear they will never buy another American car. These days most cars will easily run for over 100,000 miles if you keep them serviced properly.
Toyota fans on this site have gone so far as to say that if we all drove Toyotas the world would be a better place. I'd rather ride a bike than drive a Toyota, but to each their own.
Yes the Honda Accord looks horrible. I am going to go out and buy a Chevy Malibu which looks hot and will be worth 50,000 dollars because of its finely stitched vinyl. A bunch of hype coming out of Oklaholma I tell you.
Why not buy a fully loaded Suburban? Seems a bit high for a Malibu, but it's up to you.
23:33 Yeah, the Accord looks terrible. That's why it's been the best selling car in the country a number of times. And your Malibu will be worth $50,000. Wake up.
18:43 wake up a Honda owner made the Malibu comment not vice versa. Why also assume that all GM owners drive Malibu's? My older 396 SS Camaro that I paid $3500 new is worth $50k...list the Accords that have appreciated.
What year is the SS Camaro? Probably 1969? Name a good car that GM made after 1980. There aren't any. My parents owned some GM's after that period. They're the worst cars ever built by anyone. How about their 1984 Celebrity that had 3 engines put in it in under 90,000 miles? They sold that to a junkyard for about 50 dollars around 1990, and made the mistake of buying an '87 Cavalier. Engine blew up early on, the transmission devoured itself, it overheated regularly, etc. Both junk, despite meticulous car and maintenance. I bought a 1979 Malibu in 1990 with 60,000 original miles. It had a 267 in it. Great looking car, but it got the worst gas mileage I've ever seen, it also overheated once a week, and burned more oil than it did gas. Basically junk, even though I really liked it. Meanwhile, my uncle bought a 1989 Toyota 2-wheel drive truck brand new. He never had a single problem with it, and just sold it 2 years ago. My dad, who had little money in the '80s when the steel mills were going under, was always spending money fixing his GM's when my uncle's Toyota didn't cost him a nickel other than regular maintenance for the last 20 years. GM's were garbage then, are still garbage today. If Toyota's were made in Japan only, I'd gladly pay the cost of having one shipped to the US on top of the purchase price just so I could avoid buying a GM here. NO more 'Generic Motors' vehicles for me.
My 1998 Corvette Convertible was exceptional as was my 1969 396 SS Camaro and even my 1964 Impala SS 4 speed Convertible. The last two especially increased in value many times. 1998 to the present Vettes are incredible. Can't think of any exceptional Hondas maybe the NSX. Maybe you have only had experience with low end models. GM 2007 full size SUV's, pickups are also all great for something different. None of the Hondas, Toyotas have much appeal or performance in my opinion. Maybe next years Toyota Concept performance coupe may offer some hope since the Supras demise. As you can see boring, uninspired, underpowered sedans, SUV's are not to my liking. I've cut back my driving, but still do not want to be totally disappointed or lose my enthusiasm for driving.
Are you Toyota owners kidding me! GM has the best quality for the money, and did you forget about the half a million cars Toyota had to recall due to sludge in the engines, that they tried to cover up! Get real and help our economy; don't just buy a Camry because someone says they are better, do some research
1. They have a shorter warranty than the Saturn Aura "a direct rival to the camry same price and size"
2. The Saturn is far better looking and made here, where people spend their paycheck to support other american jobs, not overseas somewhere.
