2007 Toyota Camry LE review from North America
"Sensible, economical, quiet, practical, on and on"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Actually nothing!
General comments?
Our car has the 'C' package which includes
sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, and built in garage opener which I use.
I needed a car that was reliable and safe for my wife to drive during late nights home from work. She works about 125km from home.
The seats are wide and flat, not comfortable for me, I'm 6'2" tall and rather thin, and they don't provide enough support under my legs. The interior plastic is hard on my knees.
The cruise control is not intuitive like BMW. Canceling the cruise does not shut off the cruise right away. It kind of tapers off slowly, which really is scary when you are approaching the back of a transport. I end up getting too close for comfort and laying on the brakes.
The same resuming your speed with cruise, it takes about 4 seconds to start going, then it's waaay too slow acceleration and takes forever to get back to speed.
The electric seats are very slow, but the power windows are very fast.
I like the engine, it's a great compromise between gas mileage and horsepower. I really can only pass one car at a time on the highway, not three or four at once like I used to, but that's okay! I'm getting double the gas mileage compared to before.
The trunk access is very small. It's very difficult to get the baby stroller in, I have to twist, turn, & push.
The steering feel is dull and vague. At times it almost feels dangerous. It has absolutly no road feel through the steering (very bad). I knew this buying the car, it's typical toyota steering.
The suspension is quiet and soft for driving around town, but pick up some speed and it loses it's luxury feel very quickly. Wind noise picks up, the suspension starts to cause the car to wander the road, overall it's not very rewarding.
The stereo sound quality is the worst I've heard in any car period. It sounds very cheap, and when you turn up the volume, it sounds exacly like really bad computer speakers with about the same wattage.
What is rewarding though is how the car still feels the same the day we bought it when new after 66,000 kms. Add to that we havn't had any problems with the car. It's excellent in the snow. Great to drive at night with very bright lights. The speedometer is bright and clear.
This car has been uneventful. Which is awsome!
I plan on keeping this car for a long time.
