1985 Toyota Camry LE review from North America
"Good car, fun to drive, but parts are becoming scarce"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
So far, AC compressor - Nippon denso.
Right inside tie rod.
Left outside tie rod.
Rear struts.
Tires (all 4).
Cracked exhaust pipe.
Leaky valve cover gasket.
Currently replacing timing belt, since it's 25 Y.O, and is a BELT, not a chain.
Electric window regulator.
General comments?
The car rides well, handles like a typical Toyota.
I've been happy with it; it came out of a 20 year storage period, so there were issues. Parts are an issue due to the age of the car, and sometimes it is hard to find them.
When everything is working perfectly, I love this car, but I am very picky about the ride, and parts can be hard to find.
Also, nowadays it's hard to find a good mechanic, and due to the age of the car, the dealerships have provided me HORRIBLE service, I prefer to stick with an ASE certified mechanic who knows what he's doing, and only go to the dealer for the hard-to-find parts.
