1993 Toyota Camry GX review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front left channel of the stereo died. Er, that's it!
General comments?
What's good? - Silky smooth V6. Quick. Surprisingly good roadholding for such a smooth ride. Leather, air, cruise, etc as standard. Everything works effortlessly.
What's not so good? - Thirsty. 26 mpg at steady 70mph. 20 mpg around town. Less with the air-con on. Best you'll ever get is around 30 mpg driving like you've an egg under your foot. Doors and boot feel and sound a bit tinny when closed. Dashboard and trim a bit too Japaplastic for this class of car.
Overall? - Painless. Despite the anonymous styling, several "Ooooh. That's one down from a Lexus, isn't it?" and other similarly knowing comments were forthcoming from people who I wouldn't have previously expected to even know what a Camry was. No surprise that they're very popular in the USA.
