1985 Toyota Camry LE from North America - Comments

"Reliable, inexpensive,"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Since I have acquired the car, the only thing that has gone wrong was the alternator went out. A re-manufactured one was around $100, but I had the origonal one rebuilt for $63.50. The car does smoke imtermittently, but still returns great gas mileage (28.28 last tank) but burns a little oil.

General comments?

My friend's wife's parents bought the car new in 1985 She got it when she turned 16 and drove it until about 3 months ago. I bought it from them for $200 and am a very happy kid. I can tell some things need replacing i.e. struts and shocks, brakes. But with 248000 miles and $200 this is to be expected. What a wonderful little car Toyota produced. I am extremly impressed with this automobile and would love to find one with less miles.

I have a 1985 Toyota Camry 4dr/hatchback with less than 200,000 miles. And I am not doing anything with it. Someone crashed into to us and it brings that bad memory. Only the hood got damaged, but the memory is not a good one being that my wife had had a miscarriage less than a month from the accident. I love my car, but it is not a good thing to keep. It is currently parked with a dead battery and I believe a bad starter other than that the regular wear and tear. Thus anyone need this great car?
