1993 Toyota Camry LE from North America - Comments

"With normal and regual scheduled maintenance, it will run and run well."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At 80,000 miles the drivers window motor had to be replaced. The timing belt has been replaced at 68,000 and 115,000 miles.

General comments?

Overall this car flat out runs great. It is not flashy, nor an eye catcher, but it gets me from one place to another with minimal costs. The insurance costs next to nothing. I have never had to file any kind of a claim and it gets very good mileage for a six cylinder. Usually around 22 - 26 miles per gallon.

Do you all know that the 3.0 litre V6 of the 1992 era has one big problem... the head gasket WILL fail. My car had a replacement gasket at the main agents at 85000 miles. I ran the car for 3000 miles and 8 months, it had a full service history and all had been done at the specified intervals. At 160000 miles the head gasket went yet again! A bill of £800 was predicted, and I only paid £500 for the car in the first place, so off it went to the car graveyard to be broken for parts... think on.

Its not a definate "will fail"..maybe you didn't take care of the car buddy, faulty thermostate.. not enough coolant.. maybe that was your problem..I've had 3 lexus v6 same engine and never had a problem at all.. both had over 180000 miles..181000 and 189000...also currently have the 92 v6 camry with 159000 miles and no problems.. its all about maintenance.. change your fluids regularly.. make sure theyre at the proper levels and you will never have a problem!

I wrote the last comment, forgot to add.. make sure the fluids are not only at the right levels, but make sure they are clean and**the right fluid!! my wife brought our camry to get gas, a simple fill er up... the guy says let me check your oil etc.. she agrees..he tells her you need an oil change.. she explains "my husband does it all hes a mechanic etc.. the guy says we have a special 14.99 oil change and fluid fill up... only 10 minutes.. for some reason she lets him.. (women..rolls eyes) the dum*ss that changed the oil puts oil in the coolant reservoir. I had no idea untill a couple weeks later I get a call.."the car is overheating" I check the coolant and theres oil in it.. i thought maybe head gasket problem, but I figured it was the oil change after flushing out the system and never had the problem again. careful who looks at your cars!
