1991 Toyota Camry Executive review from Australia and New Zealand
"I bought this car on reputation. It lives up to it."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Water pump needed replacing, previous owner did a cheap timing belt change and didn't change the water pump.
Lower suspension arm bushes needed replacing.
CV joints needed replacing.
General comments?
I bought this car knowing how it had been treated (well) so wasn't fussed about the high km's.
It uses around a litre of oil per 10,000 km's.
Very reliable.
Fuel use 9.5km/litre city, 13km/litre country.
Only annoyance is there is no lever to easily adjust the drivers seat slant. Have to turn a knob instead. I'd still buy the car though:).
I know when I have to do the head on the vehicle it's a going to cost. Toyota used shims to set the valve clearances so its not as easy as other cars, but its strong.
The automatic gearbox made buy toyota is reputed to be bulletproof. I've no reason to doubt this.
No body issues at all.
Speed? Who cares? But if I did, it can move very quickly.
