2000 Toyota Celica GTS 1.8 VVTL-i from North America

Summary:

It is a wicked machine

Faults:

Nothing, I am very happy with it.

In heavy rain I have noticed I cannot drive fast into a low puddle of water, maybe just me, have to see how it does in the snow. I am changing my tyres for the snow, I have stock Yokohama tyres on it for now...

General Comments:

I have a Civic Si 2000, I like this better, can't wait for variety of aftermarket parts...

2000 Toyota Celica GT-S 1.8 liter from North America

Summary:

Excellent styling - enjoyable to drive

Faults:

No major complaints so far. I have noticed that the engine seems to undergo a sluggish hesitation sometimes when first starting out. Toyota assures me that the car is performing at specification so for now I will ignore this unless it worsens.

General Comments:

Excellent styling and fit/finish. The car has been enjoyable to drive. I've had more positive comments about this car than any other one I've ever owned. People who don't even know me comment on how wonderful they think it looks! =)

It's comfortable to drive on short or intermediate trips, but as expected with a sports coupe.. better left at home on trips > 300 miles.

The power band produced by the variably timed engine is a bit high for city driving (6,000 rpm is the magic number).

Similar to a comment I read, I also have no major complaints so far. The engine is extremely sluggish and hesitates when first starting out. This problem is worsening. Can anyone offer some advise. It is a 2000 Celica GT-S with about 32,000 miles. HELP!

Hello...I just noticed the same problem with my car. I have an appointment to bring it in to be checked out. Thought it may be because of the winter and possible gas line problems. Tried Dry Gas and Fuel Injection Fluid, but no luck. Problem is very bad. Backing out of the driveway tonight was questionable the car was sputtering with the gas floored. Driving down the road no matter what speed the engine seems to lose compression. Yet again the gas gets floored with no response by the car. Other occasions the car gives a bucking reaction which if the clutch is pressed and released usually resolves the issue for the time being. Please let me know if anyone else is having this problem or has had the problem and had it resolved. Thanks!!

2000 Toyota Celica GTS 1.8 from North America

Summary:

It does my body good

Faults:

Too new for anything to have gone wrong.

Blind spot to the rear side.

I would like the moonroof to open wider so my German Shepherd can more easily stick his head out.

General Comments:

I had an RX7 and missed it and it's performance. This car is almost as good and I'm expecting the engine to last longer before it needs a rebuild. I love the way it handles and moves.

The reviews say it's designed for the young. I'm a 48 year old woman. My mom's 78 and was also considering one. I think she's going to get a Miata. My Celica has all the safety options so I was glad to hear it faired well after a major accident.

2000 Toyota Celica GT 1.8 from North America

Summary:

GT is still nice.. same interior and exterior as the GTS

Faults:

Nothing.. well, after redlining a few times, I noticed the clutch making a slight noise when I shift. It comes and goes.

General Comments:

This is my first car. I think it's great as a teen.

140hp is really low for a sporty car.

Exterior styling really kicks butt. Interior is beautiful too. Everybody seems to love the front of the car but dislike the back. The interior styling is really nice/different.

Get the GTS though. 6 speed, 40hp, better brakes.

Great car. Too bad I haven't had the chance to break it in and really let it rip! Got a good deal, the Toyota people were great. A must buy!
