"A good reliable car with lots of power for your pounds"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Wheel arches are beginning to corrode badly and some spots are also appearing round the sun-roof.

Strange knocking sound from the near-side rear suspension... any ideas?

Electric aerial sounds terrible.

Burns a little oil too!

General comments?

I bought this car a year ago and apart from a few niggly problems it has been very reliable, starts first time even on the coldest mornings.

The performance for a car of its age and mileage is superb. It will take on and beat most hot hatches and corners like a dream.

Seats are comfortable for the first hour, after that I find my back aches due to the lack of lumbar support. Cabin is about as roomy as you would expect from a 2+2 (don't expect any tall friends to sit in the back).

Hi

I also owned an 86 toyota celica automatic. After reading your review and 1 other, and noticing you both mentioned knocking from the wheels, it reminded me of when that happened to me as well... the steering wheel would start shaking at 40 mph. Had to avoid the freeway. Finally I took it to a auto shop I heard of thru word of mouth, and they had to do a major repair that took 2 different trips.. cost about $300. each time. I know they had to order special parts. I wish I could tell you off hand, what the parts were called... but had to do with the axel and the arms connecting from it to the wheel.

That Celica was great!! I must have drove side roads at that speed for a month or so and it held together!

Goodluck.
