1985 Toyota Celica GT-S review from North America
"Reliable, affordable car that's fun to zip around in"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I replaced the clutch at around 100 thousand miles. Have changed the brake shoes at least twice since I aquired the vehicle, and recently replaced the rear rotors front ones soon. Bought one set of Cooper Cobra's around a 100k also.
Have changed the muffler and pipes twice. The first time I replaced the exhaust system, muffler shop gave me a deal on a pipes originally made for an 86 Celica, don't know if they had to do any custom work to the pipes, but they charged me less than $100 bucks. Now that the car has 150 Grand on it, I am getting ready to do some serious part replacement: tomorrow it gets a new radiator. The car is starting to show it's age it is rusting quickly the power window on the passenger side no longer works, and the windshield leaks water when it rains, (probably water seeping into the door caused the window to stop working.) Also had to fool with the headlights a few times to keep them working. The front and rear engine seals are leaking oil and the engine looks dirty, that is going to be the big hit on the pocket book this summer.
Burns maybe a half quart a week, no big deal.
General comments?
My 85 Toyota Red Celica GT-S is a very reliable car, aside from the starter going bad once it has never quit on me. It is a sporty, slick looking car, and not very common to see one in good shape. I am hoping to be able to restore mine as close to like new condition as possible over the next year or so. I would much rather spend a few thousand dollars restoring my Celica, than buying a new car. Not a good card for extremely tall people :) I am 6'0'' and it suits me fine. My dad is 6'4'' and calls it a torture chamber.
