1986 Toyota Celica GT-S review from North America
"Zippy little toy for the price of twinky"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My parents sold the car to me, they originally purchased it in 2000. My mom drove it to work and put 33,000 miles on it (minus all my miles with my temporary liscence permit) to anywhere and everywhere. My father and I replaced the timing belt, (not an easy task at all!) front struts, callipers, re-ground the front and rear rotors.
We purchased Firestone Firehawk SS20's for a good price and had to replace two within 3,000 miles. This was due to worn Constant Velocity Joints and front stuff. I don't remember exactly everything, but my dad would.
I estimated that total cost of this car to date was about $1500. It was initially purchased for $600 from a crappy driver from Milwaukee, with poor upkeep.
I had to install a new exhaust system about 500 miles after I bought it from my dad. Grrrrrr!!! That set me back $322. Oh my did I spin some heads those few days I drove without anything after the catalytic converter!!!
I laugh - Dual Over head cam 16 Valve - 115 horses? I belive. I leave people in my dust.
General comments?
I wouldn't buy any semi-sports car other than a celica. It is so much fun to drive to me because I laugh at so many people that get stuck in my dust. Did I mention my clutch is really worn. It has a really rusty rear quarter panel and people think they can waste me!!! Yea right!!! Those civics, hah hah, they are in my dust and my 3S-fe is in tough shape. I couldn't imagine what that car was like brand new! It handles like a dream and nobody expects the performance from that car.
I put in new pioneer speakers, im planning on purchasing an alpine reciever and bazooka triangle sub.
I don't expect that car to last me much longer cause it was abuse... I don't help the situation. eelica is all I'm gonna buy. Until I can afford my Corvette or Twin Turbo Supra. Oh yea!!!
