1986 Toyota Celica SX review from Australia and New Zealand
"Great fun for a low cost"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Everything that has gone wrong with my car is almost expected in a car of its age.
My starter motor died six months after I purchased the car.
The air conditioning has never worked, and that is due to a blown compressor or so the mechanic tells me. He was supposed to source a new one for me, but never did.
The dash lights went out and that cost me about $80.00 to fix.
Since purchasing the car I have noticed the engine is burning oil. This is a bit of a worry because I know the costs involved in fixing the problem.
General comments?
As a first car it can't be beaten.
For around $6000, the performance and possibility for fun is unparalleled.
I bought my car with no modifications. I wanted a clean slate.
The ride has been improved by fitting sixteen inch wheels, Munro sports struts and stage one King Springs.
To let the car breathe better I have installed a K&N pod air filter with cold air intake. A heat shield prevents the car sucking in hot air from the engine.
Genie headers and a hi flow exhaust help expel the hot gases with the least amount of effort.
These few modifications have made this car a dream to drive.
Very few cars, if any, have what this car has at this age.
