The right Front Rowdier needed to be replaced; However, that is probably the way I drive it, it glides and has such power that sometimes I forget my speed and hit bumps rather hard.
The Timing belt required changing which is routine maintains.
The Fan continuously ran when the engine was on, all this required was for the wire to be replaced.
I love my Celica.
It rides like a dream, the handling is better then any Camaro I have ever driven.
Its wide, low ride allows you to take corners at high speeds, you feel part of the road.
The interior is comfortable, and the curved dash allows an easy reach for the Driver.
I have the Hatch back and you wouldn't believe what can fit in the back.
I get great gas mileage, and other than a little rust around the wheels the paint looks as if it came off the show room floor, with no fading after eleven years.
The appearance is aerodynamic and sporty, which is why I bought it in the first place. The Celica has a unique style that makes it easily
recognizable when walking in a parking lot full of automobiles that look the same.
I also love the pop-up lights, which I have never had a problem with.
It is reliable at 120,000 miles it sounds just as good as it did when I first brought it home.
This is not unique either, everyone that I know who has one feels the same way.
The only thing I would wish for is that that Toyota would go back to the 92 style Celica so I could buy a new car.
You must have not ridden (I assume you've never actually drove one either) in many Camaros then.
Regardless, yes, the celica is a neat little commuter. Gets good mileage, the insurance is cheap, and they can get out of their own way The 2.2 5sfe in the GTs has 145 ft/lbs of torque, 20 more than a 1995 Integra with a b18b1 to put it into perspective. Is it fast? Not by any measure. Is it a great car, especially for a teenager as their first? You bet.
The styling is sharp, parts are cheap if you happen to need them, uses little fuel, has a decent ride, comfy interior, and they can be had for very little money today.
If you're a hands on type of person and have some extra cash laying around to play with, a 3sgte swap can be performed - The only somewhat fast celicas, the GT4's and ALLTracs came with a 2.0L turbocharged motor good for around 200hp for this generation of USDM Celicas. The motor will swap right in, but will require new harness/ECU. These are floating around on E-bay for around $2500 for motor, harness and ECU. Great alternative to the popular Integra type-R swap, where the motor alone is around a ridiculous $5000.
I completely agree with this review. I haven't had a single problem with my car other than the alternator needing to be rebuilt. Mine is a '91 and I've owned it for a year and a half with the alternator being the only problem.
As for performance, the 5sfe is nowhere near the best in performance, but runs well enough... burns a little oil at higher mileage, but I've had no problems with the engine at all.
