1989 Toyota Celica Convertible GT review from North America
"The only gas savor to be fast, nice, fun, inexpensive, and reliable!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
So fare the only things that have gone wrong are motor mount at 174,000 miles.
Then the Thermostat at 176,000.
It seems as if the power steering leak is the next thing to be fixed along with the automatic transmission leak. It has its problems like all cars, but hey its got 190,000+ miles and I'm very proud of Toyota's great quality and easy to get parts.
General comments?
Unlike a lot of Toyota Celica owners I have the convertible. So fare I've read nothing bad about it, in fact most people claim that the Toyota Celica convertible top system is the best there has ever been, and all I know is that my 1989 has the original top it came with from the factory and its still in very very nice shape, looks as good as newer convertibles if not better. No its not a exotic sports car, but it does have a lot of get up and go for such a small car I've buried the 120mph speedometer 4 or 5 times already and that's with only the addition of a K and N filter, which I highly recommend you buying. The back seats are not the most spacious, I'm a big guy and I can fit back in them, but its hard getting in and out. The front seats are nice and provide the needed support you would want for such a car yet they don't recline. I usually do the mechanic work myself, but for the motor mount I didn't have the time or the work effort for it so I had a local mechanic work on it and I couldn't help, but comment what he told me. "Your little Toyota has the coldest Dam* A/C I've ever seen in an economy car!"
