1985 Toyota Celica GT review from Australia and New Zealand
"awesome, great first car."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Gearbox lost a tooth from the final drive gears, as could be expected due to the previous owner running it without any oil in the gearbox for approx 3 months.
Gearbox has been replaced with a Japanese-import mid-80's Toyota Corolla gearbox, and I've encountered no trouble so far.
Electric mirrors have broken (the internal plastic has perished)
General comments?
This car is a japanese import version, model number AT160. It's essentially a Toyota Corolla with a flash body.
The 4-AGE engine has a great reputation for reliability when thrashed, and has given no trouble whatsoever.
Due to being a factory sport model, the springs are very stiff, and a recent long trip on gravel roads highlighted this.
Being a short wheelbase design, it is quite unpredictable if pushed hard into a corner.
Note: it's a front wheel drive version.
