1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S review from North America
"A pleasure to own and drive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch was needed at time of purchase.
Brakes were also almost useless.
Water pump puked at 465000.
Power steering idler hit the hood at 468000, car handled better w/o.
Synchros for 1st and 2nd were non-existent at time of purchase.
General comments?
When I bought this car, it had already been beaten by a friend of mine for three years. Having paid $160.00 for it I didn't expect very much from the car, but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally got it going.
Though obviously worn out and mistreated, the car proved to be an absolute blast to drive, whether it be on a curvy blacktop, or an unpredictable logging road.
Aside from sucking all the dust off the back tires on back-roads, I haven't a single complaint. I can't even force myself to sell this car, even though I have a high performance Camaro in the garage.
If you find a bargain on a Corolla GT-S, don't hesitate. Even if you have trouble, it is a very easy car to work on.
P.S.-Set some money aside for a set of tires, you'll need them.
