1991 Toyota Corolla SE review from Australia and New Zealand
"Will run forever"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Apart from the usual wear and tear that would be expected of a vehicle this age, there have been no real issues.
General comments?
The first time I ever sat in the driver's seat of my SE, my first thought was 'this car fits me like a glove.'
The first thing you notice is the cosy cockpit with everything in easy reach and brilliant visibility.
The cabin is comfortable and spacious in the front, although rear leg space is restricted.
A very good heater and air conditioning with an economy setting allows for a very comfortable and quiet ride.
The engine starts hesitantly, needing some input from the accelerator, especially on cold starts.
Once the engine is on, it will stay on until you turn it off.
The car accelerates smoothly with surprising performance from a small engine.
The car moves through it's gears smoothly and does not hesitate to kick-back a gear if extra power is needed. This comes in especially handy on steep inclines.
The car handles beautifully both is urban traffic and on the freeway.
Power steering ensures that despite a wider that desirable turning circle, the car is extremely agile.
The car has a solid build and a great deal of grunt.
Road noise is kept well at bay with a surprisingly quiet interior.
I have not regretted the purchase of my 1991 SE for one minute. Despite it's ever increasing mileage and age, it continues to be a reliable an cost efficient car suitable for the urban maze and those long interstate runs.
