The only thing that has ever been replaced on this car is the alternator.
It's still on it's original clutch.
The seat have started the wear a bit, but they are still in alright shape.
This car runs perfectly.
However the body is shot.
This car is so light and fast.
However I don't like the way it handles
on corner's.
The engine will last forever.
However the body's don't last.
I do agree that this car will last forever... if the body doesn't rust out on it first. Being a college student and receiving it as a hand me down when my parents got a new car, I won't complain about it one bit. I really like the Toyota name and how long they last.
I recently purchased a 1990 corolla SR5 in Pittsburgh from an origanal owner for just $800. The car spent most of it's life on the west coast, so it has very little rust, Lucky Me! I replaced the struts, the muffler, buffed up the oxidated paint and now she's good to go. Great little car.
I love my little Corolla!! I got it last year when I got my license, and it has been the greatest first car ever. My boyfriend had it for about 4 years before me driving it all over Quebec in some pretty harsh winter conditions, we even drove it to Mexico and back last year with no problems, but the rear wiper shorting out. What a trooper.
260K + Kilometers and everything mechanical is still perfect.
Unfortunately, the last couple years of city driving have really taken a toll on the body. The bottom half of the drivers side door is made of duct tape (paper mache style), the trailer hitch and bar fell off on the highway the other day (oops), the handbrake is decorative, and the left front brake has seized shut. Still brakes fine though, and really fun to drive.
I can't imagine giving it up, suppose I'll have to soon though. One more winter and all I'll have left is a seat and an engine.
