1985 Toyota Corolla DX, hatchback. review from Denmark
"Workhorse with lots of space and low maintenance costs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I've had to change the alternator 2 (cost me 40 € a piece) times during my owner ship. Later I've found out that you can just change the coals instead of the whole unit.
I've had the clutch changed (cost me 270 €)
Rust around around the wheel areas. Mine was rust treated 2 times a long time ago which has made a big difference. I've painted rusty spots with Hammer lack (silver). Stopps the rust immediately and it dosn't come back and you can hardly tell the
difference from the original lack.
The previous owner (my granddad) forggot to change the timing belt (remember this) which resulted in major damage to the engine. The valves had to be changed and engine overhaul.
General comments?
This was my granddads car. He drove like a manic, but kept the car in the garage most of the time.
This is the most inexpensive car you can have. A true workhorse.
Easy to get parts.
Easy to repair. You can do most things yourself.
Change the oil every 5000 and it will run forever.
And it handles great. Responsive engine and good gearbox.
Mine is a hatchback model with 5 doors. Lots of space. Most people are surprised.
