1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 Sprinter Trueno from Malaysia - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Not a thing...

Except tyres. Used up a lot of rubber while driving this sweet machine.

General comments?

This car is wonderful. If you are talking about power... well it doesn't have much. Only 150 BHP or so. But the handling is so sweet (neutral) that you could almost feel like it is an extension of your mind. This is the car where you could drive like mad, see a corner, dive into the apex while trailbraking, downshift, the rear starts to slide out, countersteer and balance with throttle to produce a nice drift... even when you are a novice like myself.

The AE86 is apparently a legend in Japan. But being in Malaysia, I've never heard of it. I saw it while looking for a cheap car (it was cheap) and bought it. My friends saw it and they went nuts. They showed me the pictures. That's when I started to try out those crazy drifts. hehehe.

I never modified my car and the Trueno is still standard except for a freeflow filter and a straightflow exaust.

I do not want to mention about the inside as it is not important. The whole beauty of the car is in its handling. WOW!!!

The year doesn't matter, 85 is still a Trueno with the AE86 engine!!! AE86 doesn't mean it start from 1986.

AE86 refers to the body type, not to the year it was produced because its called a hachi roku meaning eight six NOT hachi ju roku meaning eighty six. If your going to make comments know your cars please. And besides the lights the 85 looks just like the 86 except the engine is an sohc instead of the dohc. -JB.

I know a bit bout trueno, but not the price. I not very sure why this car is a craze to a lot of people it is because of the anime initial d? well, to me this car looks good. kinda hard for me to search where to purchase it. Any ideas guys?

A comment on the first comment. Trueno and Levin are just body styles. AE86 is the chassis code, including all American corollas of similar year, and JDM APEX's and GT-V's. Nice to know you read initial D, but read carefully and you'll see that Itsuke said 'oh, I just said Levin, I never specified an 86'. 86's came in both body styles.

internet drifters haha soo funny. watch to much cartoons, need to do real research on the car. only then you will realize that the car isn't easy to drift and isn't cheap to maintain or modify, you intial d fan boys are the ones who are driving up the price of these cars and making them more rare. Due to the fact that you think this car is made to drift, on mountain passes and slamming them into the sides of mountains. There is alot more to drifting to cranking the wheel counter and gas. please just keep quiet if you've never owned or driven one, because the knowledge you share is wrong and unfounded. only people who don't have any real life knowledge of the car would believe

whats coming out of your mouths. THEY ARE ONE OF THE MOST CHALLANGING CARS TO DRIFT due to the lack of power.

I agree to 9th Nov 2005, 21:14 they are hard cars to get sideways due to lack of power however because it hasn't got that much power it means that you don't have to be sensitive with the throttle it depends on what you want if you are good at entering drifts, but not so good in the middle of a drift go for a AE86 if your good in the middle of a drift, but not so good entering a drift you might have to go for something like a Silvia DRIFT CARS ARE YOUR OWN PERSONAL CHOICE.

Hi there,

I am looking for ae86 (I thought it is a Sprinter Trueno, I may be wrong) just like the one in initial D that has pop up head lights. Can anyone tell me when is the car made in and the specification of the initial D car? I realize there are different years of model AE86 and how to tell the difference between them. Thanks.

Come on, I have a ke70 Corolla with the mighty 4kc making 40 kw. It has a locked diff, cut Falcon springs and an exhaust. I can do excellent things with it, as you don't need much power to drift.

In the rain I always show up my mate in his R32 Skyline, making 190kw. ATW Toyota RWD cars are great, and it breaks my heart to see them get rarer and rarer. Soon all we will have is boring old front wheel drives. It's sad.

I own this car in Ukraine, the only thing I can say - it is not cheap, it is very hard to find parts on this car, and drift is very expensive kind of sport. It is much more easy to own Nissan 240sx or Silvia then hachi roku.

If your trying to drift or learning to drift, a 240sx or a silvia will do you well.. and if you struggling on my money, parts for 240sx's are cheap, there area also many interchangable parts with other nissan cars. If your short on money and can afford tires, you can go to a local junk yard and get tires for 15 dollars that will do for learner drifters.. untill you want to have more control and learn longer drifts.
