2003 Toyota Corolla LE review from North America

At 20,000km during the first winter, the center console plastic doors snapped off and had to be replaced.

This might have been due to minus 30C

temperatures and/or poor plastic materials.

Toyota covered the repair.

The Engine light came on at approximately 48,000km. The problem was minor and seemed to be a lose gas filler cap. The dealer charged us $45.00 as the light sensor (inside the gas filler tube) must be reset by a mechanic.

At 58,000km we asked the dealer to check out the noise at the back of the car and strange tire wear. Very loud droning noise.

At 66,000km left rear wheel bearing went and needed to be replaced.

Dealer attempted to charge us $800 for this, BUT, it was pointed out that this was the cause of the noise mentioned above. Toyota covered this repair.

At 79,311km the so called "gas cap" problem caused the engine light to come on in a parking lot. The car had been gassed up 2 days before and no engine light came on before this occasion, when speed bumps seemed to be a possible trigger. The dealer attempted to charge us $45.00 for resetting the sensor again, BUT, a very vocal complaint as to the tightness of the gas cap and the amount of time before the light came on, caused them to relent on the charge this time.

This car seems quite nice and rides well. Good fuel economy. A likable car except for above weird items.
