1996 Toyota Corolla XE saloon review from Cyprus
"Never broken down, hassle free driving"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Battery needed changing at around 40000 km (would be considered normal).
Rear brake pads changed at 60000 km. (normal)
The digital clock does not work.
Other than these listed the car has never broken down.
General comments?
This car is an Japanese grey import to Cyprus. I purchased the car when it was 18 months old, with 25000 km on the clock. I change the oil every 10000km, and brake pads every 30000km and that's all. My car is a AE110 corolla, it was only made for the Japanese home market. The car is an automatic with 100 hp the performance not too bad, I drive the car quite harsh and still get around 7.5 Lt/ 100km. The interior is quite bland, the plastic does look cheap, but yet the interior is the same after 10 year it still looks new with no rattles. The only things I don't like about the car is the sound isolation, at around 90km\hr you start to hear wind noise which is quite annoying if the stereo is off. One other thing is that the paint chips easily you should beware to slow down on dirty roads. When it comes to handling it is OK, with wider tyres as on mine. I would recommend a "made in japan" toyota to anyone who wants a trouble free car with lot's of standard features. I really do think ther is a quality difference between Japanese cars produced in japan and other countries. If you want a hassle free car, buy a toyota (built in japan).
