The starter went out at 84k.
This corolla is a great car. I bought this car about a year and a half ago. In that time the only thing done was the started it was expensive. The labor and started came to about $500. I've put about 23k miles on it and it's been a champ. I've done 4 trips from Wisconsin to Nebraska. And a 45 minute trip to work for a long time. The gas mileage on this car is great. The downfall to this car is its size. No backseat room. Trunk has good space. One thing that really suprises me about this car is the acceleration. It has a 1.8 liter engine and man it's FAST. It gets regular castrol sythetic oil changes. That's the oil that maxamizes hp. I would strongly recommend this oil, and yes I have noticed a Hugh difference in get up and go. The corolla has just as good acceleration if not better than my 98 Mercury Sable with a 3.0 liter engine. I'm not joking. It also handles very well. I would also recommend doing the tuneup yourself very easy to do and saved me about $150. Anyone wanting a gas sipper and reliability and performance in one small package, you have to at least take a look at a corolla.
I would just like to add to the comment about the 1999 Toyota corolla. I just bought a used one from a older woman who never drove it right, it was a dog (on and off the gas pedal all its life never no consistency) four oil changes later it's a rocket for a 1.8l It had 165000 when I got her, now I got 170000 and drive it hard its never failed, although I had to do all (ALL) maintenance (make sure you use the double grounded plugs) I have changed the oil 4 times in 5000 miles to flush out the carbon with a little sea fome in gas tank and oil. Now I've add magnets to the in coming air and fuel line and am completely blown away, (positive charge on fuel and a negative on the air) best of luck with yours.
I have a Chevrolet Prizm which is the twin car to the Corolla and I will admit that the little car is quick its nothing to get excited about.. almost every new car produced today comes with more horsepower than the Corolla/Prizm.
