1986 Toyota Cressida review from North America
"A one of a kind car that is very much missed by its owner"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The engine died at 700042.
I let it sit on top of bark mulch for too long before I found a donor engine so it rusted the undercarriage to death.
General comments?
My Toyota Cressida was a gift from my aunt and I drove it with no problem for
nearly 20 k miles and one day it just
stopped running and shot out a cloud of black smoke. The engine had seized due
to a bad oil pump.
With hope of one day finding a new engine for it I kept it aside and "Mothballed" it and kept it up by
waxing and vacuuming it regularly. My
big mistake was having the tow truck park
it on a bed of bark mulch.
2yrs later I found a donor engine block.
I immediately had it towed to my friends
garage to have them build the engine re-using as much of the old engine as possible.
They called me with the news that the underside was so rusted that it could snap in half if I hit a good bump or got hit by another car. So the best thing to do would be to just junk it. With tears brewing I gave the OK to junk it.
If I could even find another Toyota Cressida, Id take it in a heartbeat. My Cressida had every option I could want and it was comfortable to drive and ride in.
