"Quick, Powerful and Stylish"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I first bought the car it had hard steering, but I figured out that the power steering fluid was low.

I put more fluid in it and now it is fine.

General comments?

The Cressida's performance amazed me so much when I first approached the cressidas I wanted something that would be quicker than a vl commodore and something that looked stylish and handle really well.

The Car is in mint condition and drives incredibly well.

When the Cressida first came out it was light years ahead of any other Japanese and Australian car on the market.

The engine in my car is the second engine which does not bother me because the original engine was replaced at about 89000 Ks and the motor that it was replaced by was imported from japan.

The reason that the other motor blew up was because the previous owner from new never used to drive it more than 8 kilometers 95 percent of the time he owned it as he was old he used it just to go to the bowls club and back so if you drive short distances it resolves in serious engine damage.

I love my car and I am grateful that I was able to buy the car off an old man that cared about his car.

Have you personally had any troubles with your Cressida?

I own one and I seem to have problems with accelerating (it doesn't seem to pick up speed fast enough compared with other cars of it's class).

My 82 Cressida gets up very quick for a 2.8L straight 6..being it is an automatic to. Never had to replace anything major for the car.. plus has 220,875 miles on it. Try maybe getting some injectors for it, or get some fuel additives to clean them.

Have you tried timing the engine? This may work wonders on your sluggish acceleration.

My experience with the toyota cressida mx83 has been disasterous. So far it has cost me over $4000 in repairs, mainly due to blown head gaskets. I had brought it for $4100.00 a year and a half ago and it has been off of the road for about two thirds of the time that I have had it for. Now I have a problem with getting it started, it will not crank at all. have reconditioned the started motor and have replaced the alternator, have replaced and checked all the fuses and have gone over the engine like you wouldn't believe. Still to no avail. It has about 270 000 on the clock. I do a lot of driving and although I once loved the car, I no longer have the passion to keep it on the road. I think I will just stick to the dirty old EA Falcon.

I recently bought and MX83 and it is one of the best cars I have ever had and driven.

I get to drive heaps of different cars as I work for a car dealer, I've driven the new Falcon GTP, a Bentley Mulasanne turbo, even a TVR Cerberra, and I get the same enjoyment driving the MX83, although the BA Falcon GTP is pretty awsome.

I've heard many stories about how the head gasket blows, etc on the MX83, but I have also heard just as many stories of no problems at all.

I'm gonna stick with this car for a while, I love it!

Hey dude instead of spending $4000 on the current engine why didn't you just go 1jz it would have been better then spending money on the 7m.

I'm in Sydney Australia and have just recently done a 1UZ fe conversion and it is the best, smoothest, most economical I have had a Cressida. I have had MX73 with a 3000 6MGE and 1990 MX83 with 3000 7MGE engines before this, but the V8 is 20kg lighter than the same 6 cylinder version and returns the best economy.

They go good with a manual conversion done to them. A real underrated car, plenty of potential in the Cressie.
