1980 Toyota Long bed pick-up 4x4 review from North America
"A very cheap and reliable 4x4"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
It did not run when I bought it, but after some work and about $700 it is a great truck. It has some burns on the seat from some idiot shooting a 22 from inside it. I had a buddy with a 1980 Toyota just like it and his second gear went out on the transmission. He went to get a new one and they told him that in 1980 they changed the bolt pattern on the 20R engine and transmission and that the 2nd gear is known to go bad. In 1981 they came out with the 22R with a different bolt pattern. Therefore, only a 1980 engine and transmission will fit together.
General comments?
Luckily my transmission is still good, but I don't know what I'll do if it goes bad. Other than that the truck runs great and I haven't had any problems. The truck handles great off road and has a frame like a tank.
