1989 Toyota MR2 review from UK and Ireland
"Great but get one that is standard"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing, despite trying really hard.
That said I bought it in a very sorry state; serious rust, some of it structural. massive wheels which are too big and has damaged the suspension. half the electrics don't work (radio, drivers window)
the odometer is frozen at 165000 and has been for at least 2 years, as I see from the previous MoT documents.
All in all a fair reflection of the price £495 :) from eBay.
General comments?
Brilliant fun.
Would be much better with standard wheels and tires. It is very good on fuel 40+ mpg. and the little 1.6 sings above 4500 revs, it feels like a small turbo kick when the cam changes profile. Bomb proof engine, but sadly the bodywork is shagged and I will scrap it or sell it for spares in July after a year of ownership.
Insurance was v cheap £240 tpft. 27 year old guy with 2 years ncb.
goes well despite all its problems, in mint condition this would be a great car. it is a great advert for Toyota that it got this far.
