1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo review from North America
"A screaming turbo"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
O2 sensor fix by the dealer at 55,000.
Bad valve cover at 60,000.
General comments?
This car is really made for racing. Forget your SI's, and your Z-24's. This car is much faster. 0-60mph gives 7 seconds, and it can get up to 140mph.
This car can rev all the way up past red to 8000rpm. The engine sounds sweet even when the turbo kicks in.
It also doesn't handle that bad either.
This engine is sweet. There are people that complain about the lack of torque, but if you know exactly how to drive the car and knowing how to shift properly, dropping the gear and nailing the throttle beats having torque.
If you drive the car under 4000 rpm, it will give you 37-38mpg on the highway.
This car is also really reliable. It always starts right up and runs perfect.
Going to expensive Toyota dealers for service and parts are very pricey, but if you want a good selling price for the car then it's worth it.
The only negative thing is that it's a bit high on insurance.
