1989 Toyota MR2 Supercharged or S/C review from North America
"Great Toyota performance"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Brakes were warped at purchase, and were replaced with performance rotors and pads for $300.
Tires were also worn and were replaced at a cost of $320.
The muffler fell off, breaking the flex pipe, and was replaced by a very cheap aftermarket one, $32.
Toyota Racing Development headers were ordered to replace the entire exhaust system $350.
Two rims are bent, and I expect their replacement to cost $100-$300.
General comments?
This car is a great daily driver, and I drive 60 miles a day to get to college and back, getting about 25-35 miles to the gallon.
Exhaust system is a bit bothersome, but when the Toyota Racing Development headers arrive (to replace broken downpipe and flex pipe), that should be cleared up.
Car handles incredibly well compared to my RX-7, although it has cost a lot more to get it there.
Low miles for a Toyota, and I expect it to drive for much longer.
Oil changes every 3000 miles with Mobil 1 5w-30 seems to work well for these cars, as my oil has gotten much cleaner through only 2 oil changes!
Overall a very well built car with plenty of life left within.
