1987 Toyota MR2 16 G Limited review from Australia and New Zealand

Nothing.

Car has been rock solid.

Bulletproof motor. Removed the supercharger and added a TD05-16G turbo to boost power. Number of other mods (trd suspension, aftermarket ecu) (Dyno'd at 290hp at wheels)

A lot of people told me this would ruin the balance of the car, but if anything, having the power to choose power oversteer at will has made it even more enjoyable to drive.

Otherwise, handles like it's on rails. Recently managed to outlap a Porsche 996 turbo at a track club day. Sublime steering, engine, everything. Gets better mileage than a standard s/c, and out performs $300k supercars.

This is undoubtedly the best best performance bargain there is.

Mods:

Turbo. Brakes st185 gt4 (front) sw20 mr2 turbo (rear). trd adjustable shocks, coilovers, 16x7 front, 16x8 rear wheels. Pwr water to air intercooler. Tough clutch. Megasquirt ecu. A few other non consequential things.

Best 1/4 mile of 12.3.

Not really a general review, but these cars deserve so much more than a "it was reliable and very economical" type review.

As far as that goes however, the interior, and exterior etc have been very durable, only needing a replaced shifter boot. The car had no rust whatsoever when I got it, and regular maintenance and inspections have kept it this way. Economy is unbelievable, probably due to the aftermarket ECU, which makes tuning a dream.

I will never sell this car. It is an absolutely sensational piece of engineering. I love it.
