1992 Toyota Paseo review from North America
"I love my little dust buster!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air Conditioning System needed complete replacement at 100,000 miles.
Exhaust sleeve was put on at 180,000 miles.
Driver's side CV boot tore at 183,000 miles.
I replaced the radiator at 180,000 miles, although it was still working. It was the original and I began to be concerned about being left on the side of the road with it.
General comments?
This is the best car I have ever owned! I bought it at the beginning of my second year of college and it has now gotten me through my first two years of grad school. Over the last two years I have been driving between Austin and Kansas a couple of times a year (about 10 hours each way) and it has performed beatifully. In 6 years it has never left me on the side of the road and the gas mileage is awesome (at about 40 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg in town). This car handles well and outside of regular maintenance, she she hasn't gotten to know mechanics very well.
My only gripes are the size of the back seat (too small for most adults) and that the air conditioning system is not very good. This didn't use to bother me until I moved to Texas' warmer climate.
Overall, this is a great car for the money, especially if you commute. I hope to drive her the rest of the way through my Ph.D. or until the engine goes, which ever comes first.
