1993 Toyota Pickup SR5 review from North America

The only major problem I ever had with the truck was a screeching sound on take off from a standing start. I had the clutch replaced at 75000 miles and that fixed the noise.

Otherwise the truck only needed just some maintenance items replaced.

I gave the truck a tune up.

Replaced the front brake pads.

Changed the thermostat.

I also replaced the shocks.

I also had new tires mounted on it.

I bought the truck used and it was not treated very good by the previous owner. The truck needed a lot of maintenance items replaced from neglect. The owner of the truck owns an auto repair shop and the truck was used as a parts chaser. Unfornately the man let his grease monkey mechanics drive the truck and they tried their best to drive the wheels off it. I used to work in a garage myself, so I did almost all the work except the clutch. My local Toyota dealer was very helpful, when I bought a bed liner and a rear bumper they installed them free of charge.

My truck is a 4 wheel drive and it has performed very good in most off road situations. Like all pickups, it was light in rear so it would spin on icy roads. Don't try any speed shifting or the truck will spin a 180 degree turn in icy conditions.

The engine was a 4 cylinder. It was extremely reliable. However it didn't have much power. I don't recommend passing unless it is a must.

For the most part it was a very good little truck and there are times that I wish I hadn't sold it.
