Alternator replaced.
Smog control valve replaced.
Timing chain replaced.
Transmission rebuilt.
The original engine and transmission went 350,000 miles and were then rebuilt. The shop doing it screwed both up, necessitiang the later timing chain and transmission rebuilds.
With those initial problems corrected, this truck has proven to be bulletproof. I bought it back in '99 to take a trip to Alaska. We went from San Diego to Prudhoe Bay and back with nothing more than a flat tire to interrupt the trip.
It's not the quickest or smoothest riding vehicle on the road, but it more than makes up for it with outstanding reliability, incredible ruggedness and surprising comfort (the bucket seats on the SR5 are great). I really like this truck, and am looking forward to driving it another 400,000 miles.
I think we are on the same track. I Also have a 83 toy, and I love it. It doesn't have that much miles like yours, but I hope mine will make it close enough to 400,000.
I have six inch liftkit, two inch bodylift, with thirty three by 12 inch mud tires. I try to keep everything original like the engine. It is also an sr5 with a R22 engine.
I also have an SR5 Longbed pickup. I've only got 220000 miles on it. I'm going to rebuild the 22r, which is very durable. I just got it for my first truck, and hope I'll be driving it for many miles more if gas prices don't stop me dead.
