I've got a 1982 Toyota with a 22R and 5-speed manual. Its got a custom 5inch lift and 38" mudders on it. I bought this truck for $250 6 years ago. Upon buying it I had to replace head gasket as well as timing chain. This truck currently has 670,000 miles on original engine. the body is rusted out to damn near nothing, but still runs like a top. Due to the lift and tires, this truck is very underpowered, and you have to have it in 5th gear to do city driving. Highway driving?= not applicable. Tough old truck.

I feel for you guys and I know exactly where your coming from with this 94 4x4 nightmare!!! I do all the regular maintenance on it myself with no problems. But internal things keep going wrong. Book listing is only $4000. But I have way more than that in it.

I paid 10,000 for mine in Aug. 2000. then 18 months after I got it. I put my first $3800 in it (April 2002), Then just when I just got my finances caught up. I added another $2100 (2004). Just when I thought I could MAYBE get rid of it. It goes down again, costing me another $1900 (June 2007). Needless to say Toyota service dudes charge $86 bucks an hour. It still isn't running correctly. (1 time I had to re-gap my plugs after getting it home because they didn't do it & I'm a girl! Oh yes I complained it didn't do any good though)

Alas I live in rural area, & I can't afford to go with out it for the 3 weeks that they usually always have it for. So I've been nursing it along. I'd like to just put a new motor in mine it would be cheaper then repairing it. If only I could find a mechanic that is worthy enough to do a good job!

This isn't figuring in the new exhaust, tires, alternator, battery, & shocks I've added just in the past 1 1/2 yrs myself.

94 Toyota 2wd auto DLX extra cab. Purchased this car about 9 years ago with 95k.

The thing won't die; it's been through 2 teenagers and 3 accidents. It has 190k on it right now. It has never been faithfully maintained or pampered.

It still runs and does not seem to burn any oil. Replaced wires, radiator and 1 relay since I have owned it.

I have owned another truck; a 94 2wd stick and it had 240k on it. It ran OK but is starting to sound a bit tired.

Yes I would buy another Toyota truck. I wish they made a smaller affordable truck. The Tacomas are too big and expensive nowadays.

I have a 1994 DLX, 2.2re,auto, xtra cab, made in japan. I bought it new. 300,000 miles. Original timing chain, burns no oil, no major work, runs great. But agree with the comment about keeping an open mind.

I agree with the open mind comment also. I have a 1990 DLX Pickup 22re with 220.000. Everything is original on it, except the radiator.

About to replace the timing chain, just to be on the safe side. It still gets about 28mpg average.

I love Toyota's so far. I also wish they still made a truck people could afford without having to take out a $25.000 loan.

Hi there. I bought a Toyota 4x4 ute, or pickup as you would call it, in "99"... brand new off the showroom floor. 10 years on, the ute is still a machine, it works like a horse, I have only changed the rocker seal cover and the clutch about 3 times, that's it, mate if you hate your baby sell it and stop complaining, Toyota's reliability speaks for itself, I think you bought a dud...!!!
