My engine locked after 88,000 miles.
Maintenance upkeep perfect.
I purchased this car in 2005. I have had the check engine light stay on and mechanics keep telling me it's a sensor. I have had it check on several times. I have reciepts where I have kept my maintenance up. When I was driving on the highway I started hearing this clicking noise geting louder so I slowed down the check oil light came on and the car went dead. When I towed they told me My engine has locked up, but my fluids and oil were OK. Of course it is out of warranty. Without taken it apart they will not know the cause. IT will cost around 5200.00 for the replacement. HELP! Has anyone else experienced this. I have contacted Toyota and they will not doing anything about it because of the warranty and tells me I am the only one experienceing the problem. But I did everything right.
Dear friends, I own a rav4x4 and I faced the problem with the engine light. I did not have any problem with the engine, but when I changed in the rest of Europe the gasoline, the light came up. After 3 months when I returned to Greece, the light turned off. The Toyota company said that this happens when the fuel is lower in octane and lower quality. So, after 2000 kms the engine is fully OK WITHOUT DOING ANY THING. The gasoline in some areas brings up the problem, not the sensor.
