Accelerating was not noticed when I was trying out for 3 miles when I bought it. Poor acceleration of engine or late to respond to the gas paddle was noticed when I drove it home and it is getting worst all the time. The Toyota dealer had it in the shop three times. They say the computer says it is OK to specifications. We drove it and compared with other Siennas. The other Siennas hesitated a little, but not as bad as my van. Toyota will not fix it because they do not know what the problem is. I'm afraid some day somebody will run into my van because I cannot get out of the way. It drives like an old car with problems and they cannot fix it according to them.
Do a www.google.com search for Toyota Highlander hesitation and you will find info about the hesitating transmission problem. The article in the Dec. 2004 Post-Gazette mentions only the Highlander and lexus having this problem, but I have read of it in Sienna and Camry, too.
I have a 2004 Toyota and I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one having problems with this van. My problems are rough ride, poor gas mileage (20 mpg) noisy, like road noise, mussy shifting from first to second gear, I had the AC worked on twice. On recalls, my parts were also on order as well as a part for the AC.
In short - I'm very disappointed in the vehicle, I think I'll stick with Chevy's.
Well, one more thing I've also contacted the Toyota hot line and got no where with any of my problems note to mention being disappointed in my local Toyota Dealer Ship.
I also have a 2004 Toyota Sienna which is a POS!!! It hesitates to the point of being dangerous. I am afraid to pull out int traffic from a stop, or to try to pass another car, for fear it won't respond and I'll get run over. My dealership tells me this is a problem I have to live with. The Toyota Hotline tells me they have never heard of this problem. I told them that by opening a file and reporting the problem, if I get killed in this turd on wheels, they will be held liable!!!
I have a 2004 Sienna LE. This weekend during parking the drivers side sliding door glass exploded outwards into a million pieces. Thankfully my grandson was in the opposite seat. Has anyone had this problem?
Yep, same thing happened to us, but we didn't count the pieces.
Not only has my 2004 Sienna had acceleration issues (see the numerous complaints at the NHTSA website) but it also has braking issues as well.
When pressing the brake peddle the van will sometimes accelerate or simply fail to slow the vehicle (also numerous complaints at NHTSA website). Today this acceleration caused an accident.
I have reported the issues on several occasions to the dealer. Every time they have stated that it is a computer issue and they recalibrated something or other. Now they have decided that it is no longer their issue.
I have a 2008 Toyota Sienna with a bad hesitation problem. I was told at my dealer, they were aware of the problem, but there was nothing they could do. Just make a complaint to Toyota. I hate paying for something that is not right. I wish I had more options.
