1999 Toyota Solara SLE V6 from North America - Comments

"A great buy if you are looking for Toyota reliability and the luxuries of a baby Lexus ES300"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing as of yet, however, I just had to buy four new tires because the tires were bald.

General comments?

The car handles very well. I don't know what the other owners were doing to their cars, but mine is the best Toyota purchase I have made as of yet.

The cabin is nice and quiet as well as the engine. The leather seats are plush and taken from the Lexus ES300.

The ride is comfortable and the takeoff is amazing. I can cut through lanes as if my car was dropped thanks to the variable assist power rack and pinion feature.

The automatic climate control is a real treat and the traction control pushes me through snow as if I had a truck.

I love this car and the aerodynamic design cuts the wind beautifully.

I remember going as fast as 110 miles per hour and not even getting shaking from the steering wheel. (That is not a typographical error; I actually went 110 miles per hour).

Overall I love my car and I'm 23 years old and know enough about cars to say that this car was a great buy and I commend Toyota for stepping up and allowing me to purchase and drive this car.

I drive a 1999 solara sle v6, comfortable, quiet, and powerful engine. I love it.

I purchased a 99 solara sle v6 last year and it had a slight sludge problem. The engine was replaced under warranty and my car drives great! I love that it is quiet. I could literally hear the tack that was stuck in my tire when I drove. This car is a dream. It has get up and go and looks great (sporty). All the look of class, style and luxury (with the wood grain) as the BMW and Benz without the cost. I highly recommend a solara to any and all.

I own a 99 solara and I was wondering if any of you guys on here might have a TRD Kit for a Solara.

I bought a 1999 Solara brand new when they came out. It is now 7 years old with just 35000 miles on it. It is beautiful and rides so well on the occasional open road trips. The only problem I have had was within the warranty period when both automatic window power switches failed. Toyota took care of it with no problems. I have put a new set of Yokohama tires on it. The factory tires didn't last very long. I am so impressed with this car that it may be the last car I own.

So the kid went 110 mph? Must not have had it in overdrive. We are on our 2nd 99 Solara, (first one got rear ended). Took a 350 mile trip recently and averaged 120 and still had room left under the pedal. You would have thought we were doing 60mph! Quiet, stable, music softly playing, talking quietly with my wife. The car still got decent mileage (about 25 instead of the usual 27mpg and it was not even breathing hard when we stopped.

The car was purchased used with 145k on the clock. I did the usual maintenance routine when we bought it off of Craig's list and have not done anything else to it at all in the last 2 years and we do not baby this car.

I have been an auto mechanic for 37 years and would not rely on anything else but a Toyota.

It amuses me that people comment that they have to replace tires on their Toyotas. These are wearable parts on a car. They like, rub on the ground you know. My two cents.
